Teenagers and Sport - Why Sport Has Great Benefits For Teens
We know that exercise is important for teenagers and sport is an ideal outlet for all that energy. It doesn't matter why teenagers are attracted to sport. In fact, for many of us it is seen as an opportunity to become popular and more attractive. Regardless of why we decide to participate, there is a range of benefits for us.

Social benefits for teenagers and sport

First of all, consider the social benefits for teenagers and sport. So much of the average teenager's time is spent alone, whether it's in front of a TV screen, or playing computer games or surfing the net. Although this may bring them into 'virtual' contact with others, it's not as beneficial as face-to-face, social interaction. Once we get into a sport, we'll have lots of opportunities to meet others and develop our social and interpersonal skills.

Health benefits for teenagers and sport.

These days we are all much more sedentary: we sit around much more than we used to, at the expense of physical movement. Health specialists are concerned about the rising problem of obesity, and this affects our teenagers and younger children too. Movement is good for us - teenagers. Taking part in a sport can have a great pay-off in terms of health.

Family benefits for teenagers and sport

Many parents today find it difficult to communicate with their teenagers, and sport is ideal for bringing the two together. Whem our parents suport us we know they love us and want to help.

How else can parents get involved with their teenagers and sport? There are many ways, such as:

  • providing the right kit and equipment
  • helping with travel arrangements
  • cheering from the sidelines
  • fundraising, and more

And you'll find that after a game or session - when kids are on a natural 'high' - they are much more communicative. This is ideal time for chatting and building that relationship.

You or your parent may have doubts about your ability to join a team. If you are not the competitive type, why not consider other activities that can be enjoyed just for the sake of it? Examples are archery, swimming, water sports, and hill walking and climbing.

Behavior benefits for teenagers and sport

There are other good reasons why teenagers and sport should be encouraged. Studies both in America and Europe show that teens who take part in sport are much less likely to be involved in undesirable behaviors such as:

  • smoking
  • taking drugs
  • promiscuity
  • alcohol abuse
  • and dropping out of school or college.

Involvement in sport really does get us away from the couch and TV screen and into something that is both healthy and sociable. Why not take action today to help bring us - teenagers and sport together?

The Georgia national football team is the national association football team of Georgia and is controlled by the Georgian Football Federation. The Georgian team's first match took place in 1990, while Georgia was still part of the Soviet Union. The team have attempted to qualify for each major tournament from Euro 96 onwards, but have not yet achieved qualification. Home games are played at the Boris Paichadze Stadium in Tbilisi.

The history of Georgia national football team begins in 1990,when the best Georgian footballers played their first match against Lithuania, for Lithuania was the first country which responded to the call of the Georgian. This match held on May 27, 1990 in Boris Paichadze Stadium. Friendly match ended with draw-2:2. This was only match prior to declare independence on April 9, 1991. Since Georgian national football team played another match successfully against Moldova.

The Georgian Football Federation became a member of both UEFA and FIFA in 1992, enabling Georgia to play competitive matches. The first of these came in September 1994, a 1–0 defeat to Moldova as part of the qualifiers for Euro 96. Georgia finished third in their group, ahead of Moldova and Wales, but seven points behind second-placed qualifiers Bulgaria.

Georgia failed to qualify for World cup in France, obtained 10 points and finished in the fourth place shared points with Poland, for the Polish had more coefficients than Georgians East-Slavonians held the third position. Very pleasant fact was that Georgia national football team was in the forty-second place in FIFA rankings.

In Euro 2000 the qualifying Georgia national team won only one match, drew two and remained at the bottom of the group with five points. Georgia repeated the result shown in Euro 1996, qualifying and gaining the third position. Then a period of regress commenced for Georgian footballers—the ultimate position in Euro 2004 qualifying, though they celebrated the greatest victory against Russia on a goal scored by Malkhaz Asatiani. Georgian footballers repeated identical result in the next qualifing. The team overcame only Kazakhstan. The Georgian team qualified in the next Euro 2008 by defeating Scotland on goals by Levan Mchedlidze and David Siradze. Georgia repeated previous results. This year[clarification needed] team played two friendly successful matches aganist Turkey and Uruguay. Following the qualification round FIFA 2010 was really the age of anti-record. Georgian footballers could not win any qualifying match and ended running at the bottom even though the team was trained by eminent Argentinian coach Hector Cuper.

On November 6, 2009 Temuri Ketsbaia was appointed as the coach of Georgian national football team.

Rugby in Georgia

The Georgia national rugby union team represents Georgia in rugby union. The team's nickname, The Lelos, comes from lelo burti, a traditional Georgian sport with strong similarities to rugby. Lelo has been adopted as the Georgian word for "try" (the highest-valued score in rugby). One standard cheer of Georgian rugby union fans is Lelo, Lelo, Sakartvelo (Try, Try, Georgia).

Georgia is currently considered a third tier rugby union nation. The Lelos participate in the European Nations Cup, winning the tournament in 2001, 2007-08 and current 2008-10 season. Famously the Georgians, lacking the resources of the major nations, made scrum machines from old Soviet tractors.[citation needed] The bulk of the national squad are based in France, in both the Top 14 and lower divisions. This is a practice that was popularized by former national team coach, Claude Saurel, a Frenchman, who later coached neighboring rivals Russia.

Rugby union is one of the most popular sports in Georgia. The Georgian national sevens team became the first national side from Georgia to compete in a major tournament, playing in the IRB Sevens World Cup in Argentina. However, the full national team would go onto qualify for the 2003 Rugby World Cup - playing against rugby powers such as Ireland and France. In 2006 the Lelos qualified for the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France, they beat Namibia by 30-0 for their first ever World Cup win. Georgia are currently ranked 14th in the world by the IRB as of 27 March 2011. They are the most likely new European nation candidate to promotion to the second tier of the IRB.

Georgia also has a Georgia A national rugby union team.
